The Mokwheel Basalt is the classic all-terrain fat-tire bike in Mokwheel's line, and at $1,099.99 it lands about $100 above the Mihogo Air Max. It is also notable for one reason no other bike in this comparison series can claim: at 940 Wh, its battery is slightly *larger* than the Air Max's 921.6 Wh dual-battery pack. That makes this the closest energy-capacity matchup we have run. Here is a straight, verified-spec comparison. Battery capacity: the Basalt actually carries more energy

This is the headline, and it goes to Mokwheel. The Basalt runs a 48V 19.6Ah removable pack that Mokwheel rates at 940 Wh — slightly more than the Air Max's 921.6 Wh across two 460.8 Wh batteries. In sixteen comparison pages, this is the first competitor whose battery is larger than the Air Max's. What is worth understanding is that capacity and *range* are different things: Mokwheel rates the Basalt at 60–80 miles, while the Air Max is rated up to 121 miles on slightly less energy. The gap comes from what each bike spends that energy on — an 80 lb bike on 4-inch fat tires uses considerably more watt-hours per mile than a ~62 lb carbon bike on 2.5-inch tires. More battery, less range: both statements are true at once, and both are on the makers' own spec sheets.

Range: the Air Max goes further on less energy

Mokwheel rates the Basalt at 60~80 miles per charge. The Air Max is rated for up to 121 miles. Taking the Basalt's best case of 80 miles, that is a gap of roughly 1.5× — achieved, as above, with about 18 Wh *less* battery. Both figures are manufacturer best-case numbers at low assist and real-world mileage will be lower for both. If your riding is mostly pavement commuting, the efficiency difference is the single most consequential spec on this page. If your riding is sand, snow or loose trail, the Basalt is spending that energy on traction you actually need.

Weight: 18 lb apart

The Basalt weighs 80 lb; the Air Max is about 62 lb. That is roughly an 18 lb difference, the widest in this comparison series. That weight is not wasted — it is a 940 Wh pack, 4-inch puncture-resistant fat tires, a 110mm adjustable suspension fork and a 450 lb-rated aluminum frame. But 80 lb is genuinely hard to lift onto a car rack or carry up a flight of stairs, and that is worth a moment of honesty before purchase rather than after.

Weather sealing: a spec the Air Max does not publish

Mokwheel publishes an IPX6 rating for the whole bike and IPX7 for the battery, and states the battery complies with UL standards. Mihogo does not publish an equivalent IP figure for the Air Max, so we are not going to invent one or imply the Air Max is worse — we simply do not have a comparable number to put in that cell, and the table says so. If you ride in heavy rain year-round, a published whole-bike rating is a real, checkable advantage and we would rather point you at it than pretend the row does not exist.

Top speed: same ceiling, different starting point

Mokwheel ships the Basalt with a 20 mph default top speed and publishes an adjustable range of 15–28 mph in Custom Mode. The Air Max assists up to 28 mph. So both bikes can reach 28 mph, but the Basalt requires you to change a setting to get there. Check your local Class 3 rules before you do.

Warranty and load rating

Mokwheel carries a 2-Year Warranty against the Air Max's 1-Year Limited Warranty — a clear win on paper. On load, note the metrics differ: Mokwheel publishes a 450 lb payload capacity, while Mihogo publishes that the Air Max is TÜV Rheinland tested and rated for riders up to 275 lb. Those are not the same measurement and should not be subtracted from one another; what is fair to say is that the Basalt is built and rated for heavier total loads.
